Patience: I am a pastor and I live and minister in Uganda at Christ Sanctuary International Ministries. I feel blessed to be sharing my experience about using this amazing devotional. Mama Jenay, and her family is our American family. Mama Jenay has always had a special, deep and authentic connection with Jesus that I admire deeply. I am therefore excited to access and share in a small part of her relationship with Jesus through this devotional.
How I Use Taste and See
There is a section of our congregation that I always miss- the school going teenagers. I feel their energy and love for Jesus when they are with us. But then they are gone-for 9 months of the year! So for the few days that they are with us during short school breaks, I always want to use the breaks to pour in as much as possible into their lives before they set off again. During the close of year break last year, I interacted with one of these kids who said he had befriended a Muslim boy at school. He wished to share his faith with the Muslim boy but did not know how to go about it. As I listened, I wondered how to help this young man. I had received the devotional and was looking through its contents when I saw two perfect sections that seemed to speak to me about how to walk the young man and those like him through similar dilemmas: ‘Identity’ and ‘Introducing Jesus’! I proceeded to use the devotional with a group of 12 teenagers at church.
This devotional created an amazing platform to share about how they could introduce Jesus to others. I felt that the conversation sparked by the devotional encouraged free sharing and broke the mould of the ‘lecture’ method- we could all learn from each other. The participatory method was so cool because we got to hear ALL the voices in the room. The teens were hungry and ready for a deeper dive into Jesus- the meal hit the spot.
Tasting the Meal
I am guilty of tasting the meal as I cook 😊 I have enjoyed the devotional personally as well, allowing the questions to lead me into a deeper place where the Holy Spirit searches my heart and reveal to me places where I need the intervention of a loving Savior and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit. I love how God deals with me on a one to one through this devotional.
Taste and See will ignite a lively conversation around God’s word in a group, but will also move you into some Holy Spirit conversations as you sit alone with Jesus. Bon Apetit!
